Vacuum Tube Preamplifier &
Amplifier Lust Pages
This page contains tube products
many of us lust for. Just look at them!!! They all have a high lust-for factor
too. How do they reproduce
music? I just don't know. Though if they sound even half as good as they look...
Steven,
We have enjoyed reviewing the pages of your site for a number of years and in particular have loved the tube lust pages. We dreamed for years of having such equipment to listen to in our own homes.
As people who obviously revel well designed and built audio equipment we thought that you may appreciate the monoblock units we have built. We're just
two friends who decided to take the plunge into tubes about a half dozen years ago by buying some tube gear. We enjoyed the sound so much we decided to design and build our own.
The results are no fluke but come as the result of three previous prototype systems that we built and tested over
the years. I must modestly add that the results have been spectacular. They not only look great but perform beyond our expectations. The following is a quick summary of the technical aspects:
- 300B push pull monaural amplifiers
- 5U4 tube rectified power supply
- 6SN7 phase splitter
- 6SN7 input/driver stages
- EM84 cathode ray power indicator
- Milled aluminum chassis
- Mapa burl veneer
- Selectable feedback

The new International Audio Group (IAG)
ECCSR99 srpp pre-amplifier appears to be a great value for the dollar. While they provide
this in both kit and finished product, overall IAG focuses on solid engineering at down to
earth pricing. While i have few details, the low price of $500 should get your
interest. Seek and ye shall find :-)

The Italian designed Mastersound 845 Reference stereo integrated amplifier uses parallel Billington Gold 845 triode tubes to produce 40 watts per channel. New old stock (NOS)
Tung-Sol 5687 blackplate for rectification and NOS Raytheon 7730 for pre-amplification round out the tube compliment. The 7730 is a premium version of the 12AU7 made only by Raytheon as it provides very low noise and heavily plated gold pins. There is zero negative feedback in this design that weighs in at 50 kg.

deHavilland's Aries 845-G monoblock amplifier is a wonderful
single-ended directly heated triode design built by hand for music lovers worldwide. It produces 30 watts
into an 8 ohm load from a type 845 tube while a 6AU5 takes charge in driver duties. A built-in automatic time delay helps to insure long tube life and gentle startup. Gold-played Cardas RCA input and Edison-Price binding posts are joined by an IEC and fuse holder on the rear. The zero negative feedback design produces frequencies from 20Hz to 35kHz.

One of our German readers, Johannes Lebong, sent in his own 300B design called the LeBong 300BSE
www.tube-amp.de/300b/. While the website is in German, Johannes writes wonderful English and the schematics are available for all to enjoy! This 300B monoblock amplifier is "built by emotion according to the design-philosophy of the well known Japanese amp designer Susumu Sakuma which I admire" says Johannes. A very detailed description of the philosophy of the circuit and the design-steps is online so anyone with a little knowledge can build these beauties. Those who are not DIY or handy with a soldering gun, he says
pre-assembled units are available on demand at approximately $2,500 and the owner's name can be engraved on the chassis.
