Bif Naked i Bificus

Compact Disc CD: Wea/Atlantic B00000JG38 5 Compact Disc

O.K. let's get this over with. Bif Naked sounds a lot like Gwen Stefani, of the group No Doubt. Close your eyes and you will hear a little of Gwen, here and there. Having said that, I certainly do not want to accuse Bif Naked of being a copycat. While Bif also runs around in cutoff Tank -tops (which I LOVE), the similarities end there.

Bif Naked's new CD, I Bificus is much more Punk Pop than No Doubt's Ska Rock. Bif rips through twelve songs, alternating between sensual slow ballads, to frantic Punk Pop, without ever taking a breath. The lyrics range from sad and longing, to tongue-in-cheek, let's laugh at ourselves a little, tunes.

The CD bops open with "I Died", "Any Day Now", "Spaceman" and "Moment of Weakness". "Moment of Weakness" is the current single and MTV Video (where I first saw the group).

"I'm sick with the Beijing Flu
And you choose then not to come home
A week later I caught you
Kissing a girl who was my clone…

Just a moment of weakness
I should examine my head
Just a moment of weakness
I never meant a word I said"

The video is a frantic, let's have fun, kinda thing. It's worth a look. It was so much fun; it made me buy the CD! I really enjoyed the song, "Lucky". It's a slow, haunting love song, with deep lyrics. Kinda' overly romantic, but that's been my moody mood, lately.

"Remember the time we made love in the roses
(and you took my picture in all sorts of poses!)
How could I ever get over you, when I'd give my life for yours

I know we are…We are the lucky ones
I know we are…We are the lucky ones
I know we are…We are the lucky ones
I know we are…We are the lucky ones, Dear"

I'd also like to mention the cool enhanced CD features and the Bif Naked website (which allows you to view a cool concert clip). It's worth a few minutes online.

I hope Bif Naked has a long, and successful future. I saw them in a cameo, on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" show, recently. It was a short clip of the band (they played the single, "Moment of Weakness and "Lucky"….can I call 'em or what?). And yes, I watch "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" religiously. You got a problem with that? (um, no. She's a babe-o-rama dude! --ed).

While you spin the CD, take a few long moments to read the CD liner notes. Bif seems to be a pretty cool chick. She's fluent in several languages, digs dark eyeliner around her enormous eyes, and other than being a vegetarian, she sounds like someone I'd like to hangout with.

If I played my cards right…maybe I could Bif ? Naked!

Enjoyment: 91

Sound Quality: 87
