  The front cover pretty much says it all. 101 punk bands here playing thirty-second songs. I bought this album more than anything else because I thought it would be a good laugh and that was about it. I seriously underestimated it. You’d be surprised what some of these bands can cram in to thirty seconds. The album does have a humorous overtone to it obviously. With songs like “Let’s Make Hand Grenades” by the Offspring, “Doin’ Laundry” by Nerf Herder and “Howdy Doody in the Woodshed” by the Dickies you can be assured you’ll get a few laughs.

I didn’t see myself listening to Short Music for Short People on a regular basis, but it’s getting heavy play on my system. It is just really fun to listen too. Most of the songs are pretty catchy or at least weird and amusing enough to grab your attention.

It’s also a great disc to have in the car. I end up doing a lot of five-minute trips during my day, and this album is perfect for that since I can not only listen to a song from start to finish, but ten or so songs from start to finish. I hate having to stop a song half way though, but that’s not a prob here since I’m only going to have to wait ten or so seconds for it to end anyway.

Even if the concept of 101 really short songs doesn’t appeal to you, Short Music for Short People could still be of some value. As stated before, there are 101 bands on this disc. Obviously they won’t be able to do all their music justice in that time period, but it gives you an idea what kind of music they play, and maybe point you toward your new favorite indie band. Hey you never know right?

Short Music for Short People is a blast. It has a wide variety of songs from bands with even more varied backgrounds. If you’re a punk fan, there’s no way you won’t stumble upon a band you hadn’t heard of and are now dying to buy their latest album. It’s great as a resource and it even holds it’s own as an album in its own right. Recommended.
